My Reflection on this video
Communities and their students rely on educators with deep domain knowledge to teach the students how to solve problems and create reports and or presentations within the domain. All Students, in large and small communities need to learn new techniques to work with both paper and digital content. The transition of information sources and report formatting options from paper to digital content requires educators to be leaders in the use of these technologies.
This video focuses on the need of educators, young and old, to acquire technology skills to leverage the vast amount of supplemental teaching information available to them and to empower the educators to teach all students how to leverage technology to complete tasks. The logical people to teach them and mentor them on how to leverage technologies are those that are currently responsible for teaching them already. The video documents an older teacher in a small community that has acquired and is leveraging new technologies in his teaching.
How I This video affects my technology integration plans
In this day of heavy visual and audio stimulation, education needs to adapt in the same direction to maintain the attention and creativity of students. Technology Integration can fill some of this need and potentially even save money doing so.
I have seen a lot of technologies being installed in schools over the last few years that do not appear to be utilized well. My impression is that current teachers would like to use these new tools, but do not have the time to investigate how to best leverage them with the context of their current curriculum. I believe that I and other new graduates can play an important role in schools by building our expertise in these new technologies and collaborating with existing teachers with deep domain expertise to develop modified curriculum that uses the technology and the experience of the existing teachers without requiring the existing teachers to learn all the intricate details of the new technologies. Working with experienced teachers will help avoid over use of technologies that could become a distraction to students.
